A man meeting his biological father for the first time decided to recreate an iconic film scene to ‘break the ice’ of the first meeting – but things backfired slightly as his dad had never watched the movie in question.
American dad-of-two Doug Henning was excited to meet his biological father, Raul, for the first time ever and decided to dress up as Will Ferrell’s character, Buddy Hobbs, aka "Buddy the Elf", from the 2003 film Elf.
The 43-year-old arrived at Boston’s Logan Airport in the US in a full costume to meet his father – and burst into song.
The heartwarming moment was captured on film and showed Doug jumping up and down singing: "I'm here, with my dad, and we've never met, and I was adopted, but you never knew I was born.
"But now you found me, and you're here, and guess what? I love you, I love you, I loooove you."
The song is a quote from the Elf film – however Doug’s biological father had never watched it.
Footage shows Raul looking a little perplexed while his long-lost son danced and sang for him, before embracing him at the end of the clip where he can be seen saying "my son, my boy" while onlookers cheered.

Doug concedes he feared his father would think he was 'a lunatic' following the stunt – which he had been inspired to crack after watching Elf days before he had been due to meet his father for the first time.
Speaking to Boston.com, Doug said: "When he came out of the airport, he probably thought I was a lunatic.
"It was a really good way to break the ice. We ultimately sat down as a family and watched the movie."
The father and son made contact after Doug linked to Raul via family tree website Ancestry.com.
Doug had been born while Raul never knew he had existed – but technology brought the pair together who are said to have bonded over zoom during the pandemic.
He also has his own children, meaning Raul discovered he had grandchildren he never knew of as well.
