Mark Zuckerberg has accused Elon Musk of not being "serious" about their cage fight, prompting fears the brawl may never happen.

The Facebook founder took to his new social network, Threads, to call out the X (formerly Twitter) boss after weeks of back-and-forth between the bitter billionaire rivals.

"I think we can all agree Elon isn't serious and it's time to move on," Zuckerberg wrote today (August 13). "I offered a real date.

"Elon won't confirm a date, then says he needs surgery, and now asks to do a practice round in my backyard instead."

Zuckerberg, who initially suggested the pair face off on August 26, added the Tesla tycoon "knows how to reach" him if he ever decides to commit.

"If Elon ever gets serious about a real date and official event, he knows how to reach me," he added.

"Otherwise, time to move on. I'm going to focus on competing with people who take the sport seriously."

Talk of a 'Zuck v Musk' fight began on June 20 when the SpaceX CEO declared he was "up for a cage match" with the Meta mogul.

Zuckerberg later took to Instagram to respond, telling his rival to "send location".

Since then the pair have been sparring online, exchanging fighting talk and sharing training updates – but a real-life skirmish could now be off the table.

Musk's participation in the long-awaited scrap was also thrown into question after he declared he was undergoing medical scans and could need surgery.

"Exact date is still in flux," he posted to X earlier this month.

"I'm getting an MRI of my neck & upper back tomorrow. May require surgery before the fight can happen."

He later issued an update saying recovery would take a "few months" – but neglected to confirm whether he would still be eager to participate in the extreme sport.

Despite his apparent unwillingness to fight, Musk was previously snapped training with podcaster Lex Fridman – who holds a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu – and UFC star Georges St-Pierre.

Posting a photo of the trio together, Fridman wrote: "Had a great training session with Elon Musk, Georges St-Pierre, and John Danaher last night, everything about this was epic!"

Musk replied: "Really fun! The obvious conclusion is that I need a *lot* more training."

And Zuckerberg isn't keen to be left behind. He recently earned a blue belt in Brazilian jiujitsu following weeks of intense training and took to Instagram to show off the achievement.

"Honoured to be promoted to compete at blue belt for Guerrilla San Jose team," he said.

"You’re a great coach and I’ve learned so much about fighting and life from training with you," he added addressing his coach, Dave Camarillo, who boasts a "5th degree black belt" according to LADBible.
