Staffers of a North Miami Beach restaurant started off the new year with an eye-popping tip befitting for 2021.
A once-a-week customer dropped by Miami Squeeze for breakfast Friday — and decided she needed to take home a few things, too — three avocado toasts with eggs and three smoothies, the Miami Herald reported.
On her tab of $71.84, the woman cheerily wrote “Happy New Year!!! Always love coming here” and added $2,021.
The 22 employees didn’t realize right away that they had come into a windfall — roughly $100 each. They thought her tip was $20.21.
“We were not expecting this at all,” said Kelly Amar, 23, the daughter of the restaurant’s owners. “We said, ‘Are you sure?’ She said ‘Yes, thank you. I love this place, I’m so happy to do this for you.’ It was a really special moment.”
On the restaurant’s Instagram account is a photo of the receipt.
“She just wanted to say thank you to us because as you know this past year has been very hectic,” Amar said. “This was her way of giving back and this really helps us because this has been a really hard year for all of us. It’s a great thank you for all of us.”
