The Miss England beauty contest is bringing back the beach round.

The contest ditched the controversial swimwear stage a decade ago after complaints of sexism.

Participants are invited to post an image of themselves in the saucy gear on their social media sites.

Competition organisers say it helps show different perceptions of beauty.

Director of the Miss England Competition, Angie Beasley, said: “For 10 years we have promoted the Miss World ethos, & charity Beauty With A Purpose to get the message across that we are not a bathing beauty parade like it was in the ’70s.

“It’s good to bring it back as I think we have got the message across now.”

Current Miss Chelsea & Westminster, Emily Cossey is thrilled at the chance to participate in this round.

She said: “Over the decades we have seen women’s body types change drastically, as if they are a fast fashion trend. The only way to actually feel confident and comfortable in your body is to change your mindset.

“This is precisely why I love that Miss England have brought in a Bikini Beauty Round

“It gives us a chance to showcase different body types, allowing women to normalise feeling confident and sexy in any body type.”
