The Duke of Edinburgh has spent a third night in hospital after feeling unwell earlier this week.

Prince Philip had hoped to return home on Thursday but remained at the King Edward VII’s hospital in central London.

He stayed in for “observation and rest” on the advice of the palace's doctor.

Philip was described as being in “good spirits” after he walked unaided into the hospital on Tuesday night.

Buckingham Palace has said the 99-year-old Duke went in as a “precautionary measure”.

His stay is not related to coronavirus, officials have confirmed, and the BBC suggest his stay at the Marylebone hospital is expected to last for a few days.

There were no reports of any visitors arriving on Thursday.

The Queen, 94, has remained at Windsor Castle and performed her first face-to-face event of 2021 on Thursday when she knighted a royal aide.

They both received their Covid-19 jabs in January.

Grandson Prince Harry is "now self isolating in California" to fly home if Philip's condition worsens.

The Duke of Sussex has decided to stay at his £11million California mansion permanently while his grandfather is in hospital, in case of the need to return to the UK at short notice, the Mirror reports.

It is also understood that the Prince has requested regular updates on the Duke of Edinburgh's status.

A spokesperson for Buckingham Palace said in a statement: "His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to the King Edward VII Hospital in London, on Tuesday evening.
