A Russian political commentator has claimed that it is the Russian people, rather than President Vladimir Putin, who are bloodthirsty for the war in Ukraine.

Since Putin ordered the invasion of Ukraine over two months ago, there have been consistent reports of low morale among young soldiers who have been conscripted to fight against their neighbouring country.

This has led Russian State TV to go into patriotic overdrive, with one anchor warning that the Russian despot is more likely to start World War Three by using nuclear missiles than accept defeat in Ukraine.

And, in one baffling recent address, political scientist Sergey Mikheyev criticised the Russian leader for not being more brutal during the invasion.

Unleashing a tirade on Russian State TV – which was translated and shared online by journalist Julia Davis – Sergey emphasised the Russian people’s desire for conflict.

“In our country, many are a lot more radical-minded than President Putin,” he asserted. “If somebody thinks that President Putin is tough, you’re wrong.

“Some of them might be lying to themselves that there are all these Russian people and all of them dream of living in a liberal democracy, and Putin alone is forcing them to conduct this military operation.”

The ranting propagandist went on to claim that he often speaks to people who ask him why the Russian state isn’t being even more aggressive and should have taken the Ukrainian president and foreign leaders who visited him such as UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

“Just recently this one grandad came up to me, he asked me: “Why are we playing games? When those presidents visited [Volodymyr] Zelenskyy, they should have been eliminated right along with Zelenskyy, and that’s it,” he continued.

“There would be no Ukrainian nation, and there’d be no one to provide assistance. And throw those others onto the same pile so they don’t get arrogant.

“This is now what most of the Russian men are thinking. The approach of an average Russian citizen is a lot more harsh and radical.”

This comes as another Kremlin mouthpiece appeared to threaten Britain with the use of a Satan-2 missile, which he claimed could cause a tsunami.

However, this suggestion was rubbished by a military expert, who observed that Russia itself would be annihilated should this “fantasy weapon” ever be dropped.
