Despite being married to The Queen, Prince Philip isn’t known as King, but Kate Middleton will be known as Queen one day.
Next year will mark the Queen’s 70th anniversary for her reign, as she is Britain’s longest-serving monarch in history.
From the moment her reign began, her husband Prince Philip has stood by her side, serving as one of the monarchy’s most important figureheads.
However, he has never been known as King.
In British history and tradition, the husband of a Queen born into a line of succession has not been known as King.
Some other well-known examples of this are the husbands of Queen Anne and Queen Victoria.
Before Prince Philip’s marriage to the Queen, he was given the title of Duke of Edinburgh.
He was given this title by King George IV in 1947, who also gave Philip the title of His Royal Highness, due to his marriage to the future Queen.
In 1957, the Queen decided to make Philip a Prince of the United Kingdom, as well as being the Duke of Edinburgh.

Kate Middleton is married to Prince William, who is second in line to the throne.
Since Kate was not born into the Royal Family, her titles are dependent on the titles of Prince William.
Her title will likely change when her father-in-law Prince Charles becomes King.
When Charles is King, Prince William will become the Prince of Wales, meaning Kate will be Princess of Wales.
When William becomes King, Kate will likely be known as Queen Catherine.
This will happen because the wife of a King has the title of Queen Consort in British monarchy, but the husband of Queen does not have the title King Consort.
