Acting U.S. Capitol Police Chief Yogananda Pittman named the officer as William Evans, an 18-year police veteran.

Mr Evans was killed when a car rammed him and another officer into a barricade on Friday.

Capitol Police said the other officer is in a “stable and non-threatening condition.”
