Lawyer Alan Dershowitz: Epstein ‘thought he’d be better off dead’

Lawyer Alan Dershowitz is not buying the conspiracy theories about former client Jeffrey Epstien’s death.

Since the pedophile died in his cell last weekend, apparently having killed himself, people immediately began to weave elaborate theories suggesting that everyone from Bill Clinton to Prince Andrew had bumped him off.

But The Dersh — who repped Epstein in his 2005 trial where the billionaire was convicted of soliciting a minor for prostitution — exclusively told Page Six, “I’m not a conspiracy-theory person. I think it was just a suicide.”

He added, “I think he killed himself because he didn’t want to spend the rest of his life in prison. He did a cost-benefit analysis and thought he’d be better off dead.”

Dershowitz told us he believes the fault lies with the Bureau of Prisons.

“There should be a thorough investigation . . . He never should have been taken off of suicide watch,” he told us.

An official autopsy released Friday concluded that Epstein killed himself.

Dershowitz — who in the past has been regarded as a close associate of Epstein — has distanced himself from the convicted sex offender.

“I haven’t seen him in years,” he told us. “We never had a friendship. I have no personal feelings. He was a client and someone who I had academic contact with. We didn’t have a personal relationship.”

Two women have claimed they were “directed” by Epstein to have sex with the high-profile lawyer, which Dershowitz strongly denies.

Cheryl’s Madame Tussaud’s wax work REMOVED – but why?

The Fight For This Love singer has had her wax work taken off of display at the tourist hotspot in London – nine years after it was first installed.

A spokesperson for Madame Tussaud’s defended their decision to put Cheryl’s waxwork in the archives, by telling The Sun: ‘Our Cheryl figure is currently being stored in the London archives.

‘This isn’t uncommon for our figures, as from time to time we do change who we have in the attraction.’

They made it clear that it is based on the popularity of what viewers want to see when they are coming to the museum.’We are constantly reviewing our collection of figures to best represent what our visitors want to see,’ they added.

Cheryl’s former X Factor co-stars Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne all remain on display.

Furious Charlotte Crosby rants about ‘f**king c***s’ after 9 years of loyalty

Charlotte Crosby has reacted with fury to a perceived betrayal, in a foul-mouthed tweet that has since been deleted.

The 29-year-old reality star accused unnamed people of "piss-taking" in her ranty message, which stayed online for just a few minutes before disappearing.

She aimed her ire at long-term acquaintances, tweeting: "9 years of loyalty. 9 F**KING YEARS. Thanks a F**king lot. Piss taking f**king c***s."

The time frame fits when she first found fame on Geordie Shore, which launched in 2011 on MTV.

Many of her fans believed Charlotte could have been referring to MTV in her tweet, speculating that her reality series The Charlotte Show could have been cancelled.

"MTV dropped u ? You'll need to elaborate cause if u don't it's like when people put a fb status on saying 'raging !' and everyone asks if you're ok then u reply 'I'll inbox u hun'," wrote one.

A second commented: "Looks like her shows been cancelled."

And a third said: "I take it MTV have scrapped her show."

But Charlotte's rep has exclusively told Mirror Online: "That isn't true."

Charlotte is yet to clarify who she was talking about in her rant, and neither she nor boyfriend Joshua Ritchie has posted anything since.

Her last Instagram Story update was posted just before her tweet and showed one of her dogs tucked up in bed.

It came after her fellow Geordie Shore star Sam Gowland took aim at ex-girlfriend Chloe Ferry after she claimed to have found messages indicating he slept with Amber Davies just a day after their split.

Amber has stenuously denied the claims and Sam has branded Chloe a 'compulsive liar' after she shared footage of herself shaking and crying after discovering messages on his laptop.

Sam called it an "Oscar-worthy performance" as Chloe sobbed that she'd been left a broken woman after allegedly discovering evidence Sam had lied to her for months about his real relationship with Love Island's Amber.

Mirror Online has contacted MTV for comment.

Life after Love Island: Leaving cert discos, Longford and a return to practicing law

Life after reality TV is a complex road to navigate: do you become a professional celebrity, whose biggest career goal is appearing as a contestant on Strictly, or adopt a more reasonable approach to your future?

In the case of this year’s Love Island contestants, arguably the most high profile to emerge while the show is at peak popularity, they are finding their way through the tricky waters of life when you’re no longer the most talked-about person at the watercooler.

For two months, they dominated news agendas, an example of both the quiet silly season in newsrooms and an endorsement of the show’s extraordinarily wide reach.

Irish rugby player Greg O’Shea, who won with girlfriend Amber Gill, and Maura Higgins, seem to be the best equipped for what lay ahead, adopting two roads, both bursting with potential successes.

In the immediate aftermath, ITV essentially ‘own’ the eight finalists in order to ensure that they receive the professional psychological care required to adjust to mainstream fame outside the villa, and to have the opportunity of first refusal for any business opportunities.

Maura, the breakout star of the show, landed an almost immediate gig as an agony aunt on ITV’s This Morning, a shrewd move by network bosses who wanted to encourage loyalty with the most talked about woman of the summer without committing to a specific plan.

Her first appearance was, as expected, a runaway hit and she delivered frank advice to callers in her new capacity as resident agony aunt.

It’s likely she’ll secure her own show and has reportedly signed a contract confirming her future at the station while both she and network bosses work to find the best fit to capitalise on her growing fame in a practical way.

Now in its fifth year, ITV has made all the rookie mistakes and knows that basing a follow-up reality show on a couple who have only been dating for a few months isn’t an efficient way to future proof your programme schedule.

Parallel to this burgeoning TV career, Maura still has bills to pay and personal appearances are an easy way to secure that. Since wrapping the show, she has joined a number of her co-stars in the illustrious heights of making 90-minute appearances at underage discos during Leaving Cert results season.

Most recently, she was the guest of honour at the Palace Nightclub in Navan, Co Meath. Her fee, expected to be in the region of €10,000, was likely deemed an acceptable cost for the venue for the sure-thing of her pictures landing in newspapers and on websites in the UK and Ireland, like this one.

It was a nod to the traditional photocalls of Celtic Tiger yore as Maura didn’t post any activity to her social media and instead, pictures were issued to newsdesks by a press photographer.

With more than two million followers on Instagram, it’s likely that her fee is out of reach for any business that doesn’t have a seven figure marketing budget.

In the same week, she appeared on the cover of Grazia magazine, a coup for both parties. Grazia rarely features curated photoshoots on its cover, preferring paid-for pictures and an accompanying celebrity story; but a pared back shoot with Maura Higgins, the unlikely poster woman of feminism in 2019, made headlines around the UK and Ireland.

In the piece, she spoke about being “misjudged” her entire life and confirming the narrative of her sex-positive, women-first brand of feminism and endearing her further to the public.

Her co-star Molly Mae Hague, who was a finalist with boyfriend Tommy Fury, also made an unlikely stop at an Under 18s event at Blazers Nightclub in Longford last weekend; further proof that Longford is officially on the map.

Similarly, she didn’t share any social activity, instead sharing one post of her boarding a private jet – tagging the company providing the service – with a monogram set of Louis Vuitton luggage in tow; neglecting to mention she was en route to Knock Airport to pose with a bunch of 17 year olds celebrating before school starts again.

She is primed for a collaboration with fast fashion brands like Boohoo.com and Nasty Gal, whose entire business model is built on its popularity with influencers like her. Kaz Crossley, Wes Nelson and Josh Denzel all built edits with the former, pocketing a tidy sum for their troubles.

Greg, possibly the most normal person to ever agree to be on a reality tv show, has announced it’s back to business as usual for hilm; albeit with an elevated profile, one million Instagram followers and a £25,000 nest egg.

He graduated with a degree in law from the University of Limerick last year and is continuing his plans to pursue a career in the field, buckling down for his FE1s in October, weeks before he flies to Dubai for the World Rugby Sevens World Series.

“I have exams booked for October, the FE1s, so the plan is to still go for them. I’m not going to forget about my life just because I won Love Island,” he told the Irish Daily Star on Thursday.

“I have been offered a couple of TV shows but I want to get home, home to Ireland and back into my rugby. I miss it. This is my true love.”

Aside from his huge homecoming at Shannon Airport, a deal with a local car dealership for a free Land Rover and signing with a new sports agent in Dublin, Greg has put the focus back on his first love – rugby.

He and Amber are still together and she is adopting a similarly head-on-straight approach, returning to work at the beauty salon she co-owns with her aunt in Newcastle, England.

She has made the standard appearances on Loose Women, but is shrewdly using her newfound fame to bolster her personal, established ambitions.

“I’ll definitely keep working with my auntie. We’ll still have the salon, and I’ll build from that – the goal would be opening a few more salons together,” she told Closer magazine.

“That was the idea before Love Island, so hopefully we’ll see what we can do.”

It’s telling that the two winners of the show have the most practical plans in place in comparison to the other finalists.

In the past, Love Island was a guaranteed track to TV fame, but it was usually short-lived. Just ask last year’s winners Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham, who split up before the reality show about their relationship aired: Dani is collaborating with beauty and fashion brands, while Jack is on the new season of Celebs Go Dating.

Curtis Pritchard, who previously appeared as a dancer on RTE’s Dancing With The Stars, has unsurprisingly said goodbye to his time in the background and stepped to the fore with appearances lined up on high profile shows like RuPaul’s Drag Race UK and The Greatest Dancer, hosted by Cheryl.

Lucie Donlan landed a haircare brand ambassador contract worth an estimated €210,000 and others like Molly Mae and India are ripe for affordable clothing collections

Amy Hart, who had sought therapy during her time in the villa and made one of the most dramatic – and well-received – exits in the show’s history, has been hitting the talk show circuit in the UK and is a likely candidate for a regular appearance on a panel like Loose Women. After 11 years working as an air hostess for British Airways, she announced she’s too famous to effectively do her job and will instead be focusing all her energies on showbiz.

“I can’t work there anymore because I am there to be in charge of the safety of the whole plane, and right now that just wouldn’t be attainable,” Amy said in her Instagram Stories.

“People would be – and this isn’t me sounding like ‘Oh, everyone thinks I’m amazing’, because it’s not that at all – people would be filming. People filmed us when I hadn’t been on a TV show that millions of people have watched.”

Life after Love Island isn’t all Instagram spon and nightclub appearances, but for the truly savvy, it’s not a bad place to start.

Jeffrey Epstein Autopsy Confirms Suicide by Hanging

Jeffrey Epstein‘s autopsy has just been released and it confirms what our sources told us this week … he committed suicide by hanging himself.

The New York City Chief Medical Examiner confirmed the cause of death, refuting conspiracy theories that the disgraced financier may have been murdered.

As we first reported … Epstein’s blood vessels in his eyes popped when his air supply was cut off by the bed sheet that was wrapped around his neck. We were told he suffered petechial hemorrhaging … which occurs when someone hangs himself or is strangled or smothered.

Authorities say they’re confident this was a hanging.

As you know by now … Epstein also suffered multiple fractures in his neck bones caused by the way the hanging occurred. We’re told the bed sheets were tied to the top of a bunk bed and Epstein either hurled himself off the top bunk, or had his feet to the ground and hurled himself forward to cut off his air supply.

Authorities believe the former is true … and could explain why his hyoid bone was fractured. Epstein attempted suicide on July 23 and was placed on suicide watch but taken off 6 days later.

The fallout from Epstein’s suicide has been swift. Two prison guards were suspended and the warden was reassigned following major lapses in protocol at the correctional facility.

As we reported … the guards fell asleep and didn’t check on Epstein for several hours. After Epstein killed himself, the guards tried to cover up the lapses. A judge is now demanding answers.

Brody Jenner Defends Ex Kaitlynn Carter Amid Miley Cyrus Kissing Scandal

Taking the high road. Brody Jenner came to ex Kaitlynn Carter’s defense after she was spotted kissing Miley Cyrus following their respective splits.

“There is far too much negativity being directed at someone who I love and care about very much. I feel the need to set the story straight,” Jenner, 35, wrote on Instagram on Friday, August 16. “Kaitlynn and I have been best friends for 6 years, and we continue to be. We, like many others before us and many after us, grew in different directions over those same 6 years.”

The Hills: New Beginnings star then noted that Carter, 31, is a “wonderful person, beautiful and fun to be with.” He also considered her to be “a positive force in my life.”

Despite his love for Carter, Jenner stated that moving on without each other was the most suitable option.

“We decided the best move for both of us was to keep our love for each other strong, but move forward separately with our lives,” he continued. “I respect Kaitlynn and care deeply about her. She deserves to be able to move forward in her life with respect and happiness.”

Us Weekly first reported on August 2 that Jenner and Carter had chosen to “amicably separate.” At the time, rep Scott Newman said the former couple “love and respect one another.” However, Newman added that the duo realized that “this is the best decision for their relationship moving forward.”

Shortly after their split, an onlooker confirmed to Us that Jenner was seen hanging out with two brunette women at MGM Grand’s Hakkasan Nightclub after he wrapped a DJ set earlier that evening. “He arrived around 3 a.m. and hung out in the DJ booth drinking beer. He had dinner there earlier in the night around 10:30, but the girls weren’t with him,” the insider told Us.

Carter, meanwhile, traveled to Italy with Cyrus and the singer’s big sister, Brandi. During this trip, Us reported that Cyrus and husband Liam Hemsworth had called it quits less than eight months into their marriage.

Later on, Carter and Cyrus made headlines when they were caught locking lips on the European adventure. A source revealed to Us that the blondes “became close within the past few weeks because they connected over their breakups and leaned on each other.”

Carter gave her first post-split interview on Whitney Port’s “With Whit” podcast this week. While Port did not ask questions about the “Slide Away” singer, the blogger opened up about why she chose to appear on the MTV series.

“It seemed like kind of a crazy idea for Brody to be back on TV and for me to be on there in the first place cause it’s not really my comfort zone,” she said at the time, per TooFab. “But then I also thought, the decision really was about whether for us we’d be able to spend more time together. Because he was always on the road DJ-ing and I was always on the road for work with Foray. And so this was like a project to do together.”

Aww! Sophie Turner Surprises Joe Jonas on Stage With Birthday Cake

A night to remember! Joe Jonas’ 30th birthday celebration went out with a bang when his wife, Sophie Turner, surprised him with a cake during a stop on the Jonas Brothers’ Happiness Begins tour on Thursday, August 15.

Turner, 23, and Danielle Jonas, the wife of her brother-in-law Kevin Jonas, interrupted the band’s Washington, D.C., concert to bring out a birthday cake for the DNCE frontman. As the audience began to sing “Happy Birthday” to Joe, his wife worked with Danielle and Kevin, 31, to light the treat’s candles.

After Joe blew out the candles, he planted a sweet kiss on the Game of Thrones alum. He then took a big chomp from the baked good.

“Couldn’t have asked for a better night, thank you all so much,” Joe wrote on Instagram, captioning a video of the moment. “Nothing better than doing what I love with my loves on my birthday ❤️ #HappinessBeginsTour.”

A post shared byJ O E J O N A S (@joejonas) on

Turner’s appearance on Thursday came after an Instagram Stories tribute she dedicated to the Camp Rock actor on his special day. “Happy 30th birthday to my love and the best thing that’s ever happened to me,” the post began, captioning a shot of the singer. “@joejonas I love you.”

The Dark Phoenix star continued to celebrate her hubby’s big day with another Instagram Stories post. She shared an intimate picture of the pair posing close together in a pool, which she captioned: “You are my world.”

Turner began dating the “Sucker” crooner in late 2016 before they got engaged the following October. Though the couple initially exchanged vows in a surprise Las Vegas ceremony after the 2019 Billboard Music Awards in May, Joe and Turner held a second wedding in France the month after — the same day Zoë Kravitz and Karl Glusman tied the knot in the European city.

Since striking up a romantic relationship, the couple have proven to be very supportive of each other. In July, the Jonas Brothers member took to his Instagram Stories to note how “incredibly proud” he was of his wife after she scored her first-ever Primetime Emmy nomination for Game of Thrones.

Santana, Doobie Brothers Team Up For Bob Marley Cover In Detroit

Santana and The Doobie Brothers teamed up to cover Bob Marley and the Wailers‘ “Exodus” on Sunday at the DTE Energy Music Theatre near Detroit.

According to Billboard, the two bands usually get together to perform “She’s Not There,” the 1964 Zombies hit that Santana covered in 1977.

On Sunday, however, Carlos Santana told the crowd they decided to cover “Exodus” because “we smoked some different kind of weed. Is it legal here yet?”

The combination of 17 musicians, including Santana and the Doobie Brothers, brought alive Bob Marley’s “Exodus,” which also included a bit of “Get Up, Stand Up”.

Santana also paid tribute to the late Aretha Franklin in her home town as her first death anniversary nears.

Before performing “Black Magic Woman”, Santana shouted, “Our queen that ascended into another dimension. She’s still here with us — she just changed her zip code.”

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Taken to Hospital After Plane Crash With Wife, Daughter

Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his wife, Amy Reimann, as well as the couple’s 15-month-old daughter, Isla, were involved in a plane crash in Tennessee, according to multiple reports.

Elizabethton fire chief Barry Carrier told reporters that the small plane ran off the runway at Elizabethton Municipal Airport and subsequently caught on fire on Thursday, August 15, per ESPN. No one was seriously injured, though Earnhardt Jr., 44, was taken to a local hospital, according to Carter County Sheriff Dexter Lunceford. The race car driver was conscious after the incident.

Earnhardt Jr. told the outlet via text message that he and his family were OK following the crash.

In addition to the athlete, Reimann, 37, and their daughter, the plane held a pilot, another unidentified passenger and the brood’s dog.

“Everyone is safe and has been taken to the hospital for further evaluation,” Earnhardt Jr.’s sister Kelley told TMZ Sports in a statement.

Earnhardt Jr. and Reimann tied the knot in December 2016. They welcomed their first child in May 2018.

The retired NASCAR driver opened up exclusively to Us Weekly in May about his home life. “I was hoping that we would have a little girl,” he admitted at the time. “I was so scared to have a son, being a new parent. I didn’t know whether I would be a very great parent and how good I’d be at being a father. So I was nervous about that, and raising a son, I thought I’d be such an influence on him and maybe I’d have my hands full, right? And my wife, I think so much of her and how amazing she is, and I thought, ‘If we just had a little girl, … what could go wrong?’”

Earnhardt Jr. added that he loved “who she’s becoming.”

The Racing to the Finish author’s father, Dale Earnhardt Sr., died in February 2001 due to injuries from a car crash that occurred during the final lap of the Daytona 500.
